Why We’re Moving to PayloadCMS. Our development plans for the future
Five years ago, when we first started out as a design and development agency, WordPress was at the centre of almost everything we built.
It made sense at the time. It was familiar, flexible, and powerful enough to support the kinds of projects we were taking on. It helped us move quickly, ship confidently, and give our clients a system they recognised and trusted.
As our agency grew, so did the projects. The websites became more ambitious. The content more complex. And the conversations with our clients started to change. We found ourselves asking not if WordPress could do the job, but whether it was still the best foundation for where our clients were heading next.
The Turning Point
PayloadCMS first came onto our radar while working on more complex, content-heavy builds. Projects where flexibility really mattered. Where content wasn’t just pages, but structured data, relationships, and evolving ideas.
It stayed out of the way when it needed to, and stepped up when things got complex. But more importantly, it removed a lot of friction between ideas and execution. We were able to take concepts discussed with clients and translate them into real, structured systems far more quickly.
Instead of wrestling with plugins or workarounds, we could model content exactly how it needed to exist. That meant less guesswork, fewer compromises, and a much faster path from idea to production.
What We Love About PayloadCMS
We won’t overwhelm you with technical details, but here are a few reasons it’s becoming our primary CMS:
- Built for modern web stacks (especially React and Next.js)
- Flexible content modelling without unnecessary complexity
- A clean, intuitive admin experience for real humans
- Open-source at its core, with full control over your data
- Grows with your business instead of fighting it
Each of these points matters, but together they create something more meaningful: confidence.
Confidence that your site won’t need rebuilding just because your business evolves.
Still Choosing the Right Tool for the Job
While PayloadCMS is now our primary CMS, we still develop on other popular software.
Every project is different. Some clients still benefit from platforms like WordPress, especially for simpler editorial needs or existing ecosystems. Our approach has always been, and will always be, about choosing the right tool for our clients.
We’re excited about what it allows us to build, how it improves collaboration with our clients, and how it supports long-term growth rather than short-term fixes.
